sound analysis in trailers
Within the creation of the trailers and films, its not just about the shot and editing that makes it have suspense. The audience usually forget about the sounds and how it builds the tension. For our trailer we have decided to have a sound playing throughout the trailer which does not actually link in with the effect or the sounds it self. There are trailer from ''One Missed Call'' to ''You're Next'' and ''The Conjuring''.
Within the trailer itself the usage of the sound projects the image of spirits and a sinister twist. At first it does not present a solid sound track at first; but instead a varation of objects which are featured in the trailer. For example within the first scence in the trailer it hasdiagetic sound of an old fashion camcorder and then another diegetic sound was introduced which linked in with the shot of a creepy piano. However, after the piano sound notion a non- diegetic sound was used a laughing child sound with a slight echo to enhance the idea of spirits.
From the way in which the director has used a varatioln of diegetic and non-diegetic sound . The usage of a non-diegetic sound track which is used throughout the trailer as the base sound track give the effect of a more realistic and paranormal affect ; due to the fact people listern to music like that everyday. |

Within this trailer the first single base sound track that is used throughout the trailer in a varation of keys to build the tension for the other sound tracks . That are based upon the different occassion such as when the moblie phone ring it use a diegetic sound because it is a moblie ring tone .
However , the sound of the first single base track is as if a fairytale like feel toward it which gives it a sweet and innocent affect; but in this case the complete oppersite. The other sound mention within it is dialoge ; which links in with scene that the voices are overlaid over . To emphasis the taking place of death. |
In the first scene of the trailer it present a diegetic approach because the scene links in with the idea of the base sound track playing. The sound tracking playing is very controversal because of the lyrics mentioning ''what a perfect day'' which presents an idea of false hope within the audience view and approach. Then shortly after the sound track with the lyrics cut out and just goes to slient ; from just having slience it starts to build up tension and desire to know whats happening next. Instead of introducing another sound track , the usage of dialogue is introduced from the usage of the scream to more use of speech. Also the usage of having more relating sound such as floor boards creaking and smashing of glass. After introducing a scifi type sound effect to emphasis the killing, it show a scene of a dvd playing and then the song of ''what a perfect day'' begins. From this is it present a more sereal side of the sound from which the sound does not represent anything in the film but instead the complete oppersite.
